Angel of Hope House held its first annual fundraiser and car show on Sunday, May 22, at the Elks Lodge in downtown Hickory. Live music was provided by the Whitewater Bluegrass Company out of Asheville, who generously contributed their time. The women of Angel of Hope House planned the event, and were assisted in their efforts by supportive members of the community.

The car show was judged by Carroll Epley, with prizes for first, second, and third place winners. A people's choice award was decided by the vote of the fundraiser's attendees. In addition to the band and the car show, music was provided between the band's sets by a DJ Jim Sigmon, also a volunteer.

Silent auctions and raffles were held for dozens of prizes donated by local businesses. Local crafts people set up booths. For refreshments, hot dogs and hamburgers were grilled, along with a bake sale. Most of the baked goods were made by residents of Angel of Hope House. All food not sold by the end of the event was donated to the Salvation Army shelter. All money from the fundraiser and the thrift store go directly to continuing the operation of the house.

Angel of Hope House is a faith-based, non-profit recovery house for women who have suffered from drugs and/or alcohol. It is dedicated to "Helping women with substance abuse problems help themselves." Tax-deductible donations for the house may be sent to 1139 17th Street SW, Hickory, NC 28602. The house is in need of cleaning and laundry supplies, as well as personal hygiene items. Angel of Hope House also operates a thrift store at 2412-A North Center Street in Viewmont, across from Hobby Lobby.
